Where should the gateway be mounted?

Ideally, the Hilscher Compact Edge Gateway should be mounted in a location that ensures optimal performance, reliable connectivity, and protection from environmental factors.

We recommend the following considerations for mounting:

  • Proximity to Machines: Mount the gateway as close as practical to the OPC UA-enabled machines or systems it will connect to. This minimizes cable length and helps maintain signal integrity for data acquisition.
  • Optimal LTE Signal: If utilizing LTE connectivity, choose a location with good cellular signal strength. Avoid mounting in enclosed metal cabinets without external antenna extensions, or in areas known for poor reception.
  • Environmental Conditions: Place the gateway in an environment that complies with its specified operating temperature and humidity ranges. Protect it from excessive dust, moisture, vibrations, and direct sunlight. Typically, a control cabinet is an appropriate location.
  • Power Supply Access: Ensure easy and secure access to the required +24V DC power supply.
  • Ventilation: Allow for adequate ventilation around the device to prevent overheating, especially if mounted within an enclosed space.
  • Physical Security: Mount the gateway in a secure location to prevent unauthorized access or tampering.

Always refer to the official installation guide and technical documentation provided with the Hilscher Compact Edge Gateway for detailed mounting instructions and specific environmental requirements.
